As Valentine's Day approached, Cheryl started to feel lonely and sad. Her girlfriend asked, "What's wrong? You seem so down."
"The most romantic holiday is coming and I'll be spending it alone. It makes me miss Robert."
"But you know your relationship with him was not a good one. You never trusted him and he constantly criticized you."
"I know you are right, but I don't like to be alone, especially for Valentine's Day. I'm like my mom was after my dad divorced her. She was always alone for the holidays and it upset her."
"You don't need to follow in your mom's footsteps. Treat yourself better. Be happy to be with yourself instead of with someone who doesn't really love you. Buy yourself some candy and flowers. Celebrate with other single friends. You don't have to be part of a couple to enjoy a holiday!"
"Well, I never really thought about it like that, but I think you are right. It's time to focus on living in the here and now and loving myself...thanks."

Oh, I can totally relate. I always dread this day, but this is good advice. Maybe I will create a new tradition for myself! Thanks.
ReplyDeleteIt's important to love one's self. Even if you do have a boyfriend/girlfriend, I think you should celebrate how great you are!
